We believe that every business has the opportunity to bring about positive change, and as we champion progress towards a more sustainable future for all, Jumeirah Group and its Sustainability Steering Committee have developed an Environmental Social Governance (ESG) strategy to address key global challenges outlined by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Jumeirah’s ESG strategy centres around 5 core pillars that set the foundation for long-term value creation and sustainable business growth:

1. Planet

  • Climate Action: We will reduce energy consumption and demand for natural resources through resource-life optimisation, conservation and technical innovation.
  • Circular Economy: We aim to replace the take-make-use-dispose approach to consumption, with circular systems that reduce demand for scarce natural resources, design out waste and pollution, and extend the material life cycle, thereby reducing waste.
  • Biodiversity: We undertake environmental management and ecology monitoring to protect and regenerate natural habitats and biodiversity, supporting conservation and climate change adaptation.

2. People & Culture

  • Safety & Well-being: We ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees, customers and stakeholders across the value chain.
  • Culture: We champion diversity and create an inclusive work environment; where all are supported and encouraged to reach their full potential

3. Responsible Supply Chain

  • We advocate and embed ethical, inclusive and responsible production and procurement strategies across the supply-chain ecosystem, incentivising sustainable behaviour among suppliers.

4. Ethical Business

  • We are committed to operating to the highest ethical and human rights standards and acting with transparency.

5. Community Impact

  • Our 5 pillars are supported by collaboration and strategic partnerships to achieve scale and deliver systemic transformation for long-term sustainability.

 

Sustainable Hospitality Alliance

In 2023, Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts joined the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, an association that brings together the hospitality industry and strategic partners to address key challenges affecting the planet and its people, local destinations and communities. The alliance develops practical free resources and programmes to create a prosperous and responsible hospitality sector that gives back more than it takes.

In joining the alliance, Jumeirah has become part of the world’s leading responsible hospitality network, which brings together 40% of the industry along with strategic and supply chain partners to create shared solutions for environmental and social challenges. Their work includes climate action, water stewardship and responsible resourcing, alongside human rights, employability and equity, diversity and inclusion.
