Spanning 8km of shimmering Gulf waterfront, the Abu Dhabi Corniche is a popular hangout for locals and tourists alike. With an elegant promenade, pristine beaches, lively cafes and manicured parks, it’s little wonder the coastal walkway is such a draw. Whether you’re looking for a fun-fuelled family day out, a romantic evening stroll, or simply a place to relax, our guide to the Abu Dhabi Corniche will point you to its best spots.

Corniche Beach

A powdery stretch of white sand sloping down to turquoise waters, Corniche Beach is a lovely place to spend the day. Awarded Blue Flag status, it is immaculately clean and spans half The Corniche’s 8km length. The beach is sectioned into different areas – with some sections reserved for families – and there are plenty of sun loungers, umbrellas and beach towels available for hire. Watersports are another draw here and you’ll find jet ski and boat rental stations at both ends of the beach.

Corniche Breakwater

At the far western corner of Abu Dhabi Corniche, the dazzling Breakwater is home to two of Abu Dhabi’s biggest attractions: Marina Mall and Heritage Village. Marina Mall is an entertainment complex that includes a bowling alley, ice rink and cineplex, as well as an array of designer brands in its shopping mall. Heritage Village transports you back to the UAE of the past thanks to its authentic reconstruction of a pre-oil-era enclave. Its open-air museum includes a campfire with traditional coffee pots and a tent made from goat hair.

Saddle up

The entire length of The Corniche is tracked by a cycle path to freewheel along. Take advantage of the many bike hire stations dotted along the strip and ride along the front to soak up the scenery.

Al Lulu Island

Directly opposite The Corniche, Al Lulu Island is a man-made yet relatively undeveloped stretch of sand. If you’re looking to escape the crowds, it offers much-needed respite from the bustle of the city. Hire or charter a boat to get there, and throw down a towel to unwind in relative solitude when you arrive.

Food and drink

There are endless places to eat and drink around The Corniche, from beachfront ice-cream parlours to laidback cafés and stylish terrace restaurants. The far western corner of Corniche Beach has some excellent choices, such as Catch for fresh seafood, or Marl’s Organic for juices and salads. Rosina Bellina, overlooking the seafront, offers fine Italian dining with al fresco views, while further along Corniche Road you’ll find a collection of tempting dining options next to Corniche Park.

Entertainment for the kids

Abu Dhabi Corniche is geared up for kids and at the Family Park in the middle there’s an adventure playground with a pirate ship, climbing wall and skate park.

The Abu Dhabi Corniche, with its elegant promenade, pristine beaches, lively cafes and manicured park, is within easy reach of Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort.
