Georges Malaika Foundation: Empowerment through education and healthcare
Malaika operates in the village of Kalebuka, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to improve the lives of African communities by providing educational opportunities to young girls. Malaika built and operates the Malaika School, a free accredited school providing a comprehensive program to hundreds of girls in Kalebuka, which includes not only tuition, but also school supplies, uniforms, art, music and theater classes, as well as two healthy meals a day and physical activities twice a week. With the exception of the locally hired teachers and support staff, Malaika is wholly operated by unpaid experts and volunteers from the public and private sector. In fact, this community-driven model has been integral to the Foundation’s success, bringing the transformative ripple effect of education and healthcare to the people of less fortunate areas of the world.
