Although Dubai is renowned as a modern metropolis, the cultural attractions of the city are rewarding and give a glimpse into the city’s history. Here are some of the top cultural attractions according to www.definitelydubai.com – the official website.

Dubai Museum- Housed in a historic fort, the museum is laid out chronologically and includes a number displays depicting early Dubai life.

Bastakiya - Narrow lanes, Arabian architecture and traditional courtyards characterize this district, on the banks of Dubai Creek. The laneways shield small art galleries, cafés and art stalls from the sun.

Safari  - Journey into the deserts of east Dubai and enjoy the traditional Arabian hospitality along with the following adrenaline-fuelled adventures: dune driving in 4X4s, sand-skiing, camel riding and exploring wadis (dry river beds). Desert feasts and Bedouin villages can also be explored.

Archaeological Sites - There are a few sites located in Dubai and the one in Jumeirah reveals artifacts dating back to the 7th and 15th centuries.

The Souks - Once the only place to bargain and purchase items, now an insight into Dubai’s beginnings as a trading hub, the Gold Souk on the Deira side of the Dubai Creek, is the most well-known. The Spice Souk, Textile Souk and Perfume Souk are not far away.

Bur Dubai Creekside - A pleasant daytime walk takes visitors on a journey to appreciate architecture – from the modern to the traditional and historic.

Jumeirah Mosque  - This mosque  is easily one of the most beautiful in the city, especially when illuminated at night. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, through its ‘Open Doors, Open Minds’ programme, organises guided tours of this prayer house.

Heritage Diving Village - Located close to both the Dubai Museum and Bastakiya, this area houses potters, weavers and craftsmen.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary - Established in 1985, the reserve covers 6.2 sq. km of land. The site is home to more than 500 species of flora and fauna including over 2,000 flamingoes. Entry must be arranged in advance.

The Landmarks - The Burj Al Arab, The World, The Palm Jumeirah, Burj Dubai, Ski Dubai – these landmarks of the city are worth a visit.
