Wild Wadi becomes first waterpark to be Green Globe certified
Dubai, 22 February 2015: Wild Wadi Waterpark, owned and operated by Jumeirah Group, has been presented with the internationally recognised Green Globe Certification (GGC) following a recent sustainability audit.
The water park achieved an outstanding compliance score of 84% against the Green Globe Standard for its environmental efforts and sustainability management. Over recent years, the waterpark has demonstrated a strong commitment to energy and water conservation and corporate social responsibility.
One of the primary techniques implemented to monitor and reduce water consumption was the use of an energy/water audit and the park became one of the first to implement the Defender® filter by Neptune-Benson. This environmentally friendly solution provides pristine pool water, offers maximum performance, longevity and is user friendly. The filter removes up to 99.9% of all impurities and saves 25% of chemical consumption which leads to reduced energy and water consumption.
In addition, the waterpark has replaced 85% of its lamps with economical and environmentally friendly LED bulbs which have already resulted in significant cost and energy savings.
Green Globe Middle East Preferred Partner, Farnek Middle East LLC, independently verified the sustainability achievement. Sandrine Le Biavant, Director of Farnek Consultancy, said: “In just one year, Wild Wadi has saved 9% on water consumption and reduced its carbon footprint by 7%, 10% on cooling and 5% on kitchen gas consumption, which is a remarkable performance.”
Chris Swartz, Wild Wadi Manager, said: “Being awarded Green Globe certification is an achievement for everyone at Wild Wadi and the wider community we live in. It was made possible by the passion and enthusiasm of our employees and actually became an amazing team-building event.
Green Globe Certification has also been a great exercise in identifying additional areas and opportunities to make energy savings.”Green Globe Certification is the premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry and is made up of 329 compliance indicators applied to 36 individual sustainability criteria. The Green Globe Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses and their supply chain partners.
