Jumeirah Group President and CEO Gerald Lawless recognised by British Travel and Hospitality Hall of Fame
Dubai, 14 April 2015: Gerald Lawless has been recognised by the prestigious British Travel and Hospitality Hall of Fame at a ceremony in London.
The Hall of Fame was created in 1995 to ‘honour excellence and outstanding achievement in those who have played a significant part in creating and developing the travel, hospitality and tourism industry.’
Gerald Lawless said: “It is a great privilege for me to have been inducted into the British Travel and Hospitality Hall of Fame. I am delighted that I was able to attend the ceremony with colleagues, friends and family. I would like to thank the panel for having recognised my work in the industry with this honour.”
Mr Lawless, an Irish national, has helped establish Jumeirah as one of the premier luxury hotel brands in the world. He joined the company in 1997 after a 23-year career with Forte Hotels, which culminated in him setting up and growing Forte’s operations in the Middle East. He was recognised for achieving outstanding commercial success and showing inspirational leadership qualities.
Jumeirah Group now includes 23 hotels and residences in Europe, Middle East and Asia, a stand-alone restaurant division Jumeirah Restaurant Group Dubai, an international wellness brand Talise and one of the top hotel schools, the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. In addition to a robust pipeline of new Jumeirah hotels, Jumeirah Group has also launched a contemporary lifestyle hotel brand called Venu, which will roll out globally in the coming years.
The Hall of Fame was recently acquired by the Travel Weekly Group, a UK publishing and events company, whose publication portfolio includes both Travel Weekly and The Caterer.
A number of leading figures in the travel, hospitality, leisure and tourism sectors were also honoured for outstanding business achievements. The broad scope of the awards celebrates the close links and common goals that exist between travel, hospitality leisure and tourism.
