Dubai, 10 February 2015: Jumeirah Creekside Hotel has been awarded the Green Globe Certification, securing a compliance score of 83% against the Green Globe updated V1.7 certification standard.
Located in the heart of Dubai overlooking the historical Dubai Creek, Jumeirah Creekside Hotel combines sophisticated, contemporary design and architectural features with comprehensive sustainable management strategies. Substantial energy saving measures have been implemented throughout the hotel such as solar panels which are used exclusively for heating hot water. As a result, in 2014, electricity usage was reduced by 4.3%. Currently, LED bulbs are being installed which are 80% more efficient than existing fittings.
The hotel complies with UAE water conservation regulations and operates a grey water facility that supplies water for irrigating its grounds. In 2014 water usage decreased by 11.3%.
Charles E. M. Clark, General Manager of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, said: “We are very proud to have received Green Globe Certification which recognises our commitment to social and environmental sustainability. We challenge our teams to focus on ethical and ecologically friendly practices and we will continue reducing our impact on the environment and helping to make the world a more sustainable place.”
Sandrine Le Biavant, Director Consultancy at FARNEK, Green Globe’s preferred Middle East partner said: “Since the start of the Green Globe programme, the hotel’s recycling rate has regularly increased by 100% compared to the previous year, reaching peaks of more than 415% in the three months following certification. In 2014 there was an average increase of 270% compared with 2013 figures. There was a similar impact on segregation cardboard, paper, plastic and glass.”
In the meantime, according to data collected from the Hotel Optimiser management system, general waste has been reduced by 4% and the total waste disposal per guest declined by 16%. Jumeirah Creekside Hotel management and staff also support local groups in line with the hotel’s corporate social responsibility. The hotel supports Manzil, a non-profit education centre for children and young adults with special needs, by hosting projects based around inclusion and vocational training for the students. The hotel has sponsored many activities since March 2013 for Manzil including an art event with well-known Irish musician Sir Bob Geldof, for which the hotel produced the book ‘You Are U’, co-written by two students. Educational and sports sessions including tennis and photography have also been organised for Manzil students. The concierge team can arrange trips into the desert and visits to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding offering a glimpse into life in the United Arab Emirates.
