Burj Al Arab Jumeirah rings in Year of the Goat
Roger Federer joins Chinese VIPs to start the celebrations
Dubai, 20 February 2015: Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, the world’s most luxurious hotel, welcomed the Year of the Goat in style by hosting its annual Chinese New Year event marking the beginning of this major celebration in the Chinese calendar.
To launch the seven-day celebrations, the hotel projected a calligraphic goat artwork on its sail-shaped exterior. Guests enjoyed Sugar master and Kong Fu performance and a famous lion dance. This year traditional dotting-the-eyes ceremony was performed by the Chinese dignitaries including Chang Hua - the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China and Mr. Tang Weibin - China Consul General, Mr. Gerald Lawless, President and Group CEO Jumeirah Group, as well as Roger Federer, world’s no 2 tennis player, who made a surprise appearance at the event. An eight-minute firework display followed, swathing the Dubai skyline in red.
“China remains among the top three source markets for Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, with demand from the Chinese market increasing year-on-year”, said Anthony McHale, Burj Al Arab’s General Manager. “Over the last few years the hotel has enjoyed healthy growth in the occupancy rates of Chinese visitors during the Chinese New Year period, with last year’s figures coming close to 80%”.
To make guests feel at home, Burj Al Arab’s Far East Asian restaurant, Junsui, is offering a bespoke menu created specifically for this occasion with such delicacies as Fa Gao (Chinese-style cupcakes) and Nian Gao (new year cake) served alongside Dim Sum and Peking Duck.
