New Executive Chefs join Jumeirah hotels across the globe

Dubai, 04 March 2014: Jumeirah Group, the global luxury hospitality group and member of Dubai Holding, is delighted to announce a number of new Executive Chef appointments.

Matias Martinez has been appointed Executive Chef of Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai. Originally from Spain, Chef Matias has always had a passion and flair for Mediterranean cuisine. In 2005, during his time as Chef de Cuisine at Mediterranean fine dining restaurant, Fantino in Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Chef Matias and his team won the coveted AAA Five Diamond Award.  Having spent over 20 years as a professional chef, Matias has travelled the world and worked in a number of leading dining destinations, including the three Michelin Star restaurants Can Fabes and Niechel in Barcelona. During his early career, Chef Matias honed his skills as Chef de Cuisine at various Ritz-Carlton properties including: Barcelona, Cancun and Florida, before moving back to Mexico, where he worked at Royal Hideaway and Banyan Tree Mayakoba Resorts. Today, he brings his wealth of knowledge to the kitchens of Jumeirah Emirates Towers and has already made his mark on a number of new and exciting ventures within the hotel’s outlets.

Lebanese national Hadi Salami, recently joined Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa from Jumeirah Zabeel Saray as the resort’s Executive Oriental Chef. He started his early career at restaurants and hotels in Beirut before joining Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai as Sous Chef at Al Naaforah Lebanese restaurant. From there he joined Jumeirah Zabeel Saray as Chef de Cuisine where he supervised banquet functions, Royal weddings, Al Nafoorah and the full handling of Arabic food at the resort. In his role at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa, Chef Salami is responsible for the Arabic food in the hotel including the restaurant Arabesque.

Executive Chef Chris Curtis, originally from Australia, has worked in five-star brands all over the world. He now heads up all the F&B outlets at the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa. In previous roles, he worked at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra, Australia, the Intercontinental Hotel, Shenzhen, China, the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel and Mina A’Salam in Dubai, Amanpulo in the Philippines and the Intercontinental in Danang, Vietnam. With his impressive international career, Chef Chris joined Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa to share his outstanding experience.

Stephen Wright from Australia joined Madinat Jumeirah in June 2013 as Executive Chef of Al Qasr and Dar Al Masyaf Hotels, having overseen the $1 billion dollar refurbishment of The Star casino in Sydney. A Michelin-trained chef gracing kitchens such as the 2* Capital Hotel and 1* Aubergine in London, Stephen brings a wealth of culinary experience, a strong passion for only the finest ingredients, indefatigable energy and expertise. He has 20 years of international experience in the industry having worked across seven different countries including several Michelin starred restaurants in London, T8 in Shanghai, Singapore’s iconic Swissotel the Stamford and Marriott properties across Indonesia and Thailand.

Tobias Pfister has been promoted to Executive Chef at Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel, Shanghai after a successful career at Burj Al Arab. A German national, Chef Tobias’ early career began in Europe after he qualified in Germany, then worked in Switzerland, before joining the exclusive Private Dining Club of Anton Mosimann in London. Tobias joined Jumeirah in 2002 and worked at the Burj Al Arab’s award winning fine dining seafood restaurant Al Mahara. Over the next six years Tobias transferred to the main kitchen and worked his way up from Junior Sous Chef to Chef de Cuisine, responsible for the main kitchen, menu writing, banquets and private dining. He left to join the pre-opening team at Atlantis Hotel, Dubai as Executive Sous Chef and re-joined the Burj Al Arab in 2012 where he worked as Executive Sous Chef. In his new role at Shanghai Chef Tobias will oversee the operation of all kitchens for four restaurants, one bar and banquets.

Chef Jenö Friedl recently joined Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa as Executive Chef. Chef Jenö, who is from Hungary, has great knowledge of Spanish cuisine and a true passion for Mediterranean produce which, coupled with the techniques learnt during his years in Asia, ensures exciting dishes. He began his career when he was 16 years old and after a few years working in Hungary, he continued his career in Michelin-starred restaurants in Central Europe.

He held the Executive Sous Chef position at southern Spain’s luxury hotel Las Dunas Palace in Estepona until 2008. Afterwards, he spent six years in Asia working as Executive Chef at Harbour Grand Hotel in Hong Kong and various Shangri La hotels in China before moving back to Spain to join Jumeirah Port Soller.
