Jumeirah Group wins Sustainability Leader Award from Green Globe
Dubai, 9 October 2014: Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, is proud to announce it has won the Sustainability Leader Award by the internationally renowned Green Globe organisation.
Jumeirah won the award after the brand became the hotel chain with the largest number of properties to gain certification within a year. Six Jumeirah properties in the UAE have now been awarded the Green Globe Accreditation.
Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence have now all gained the GGC for their commitment to the environment.
Craig Cunningham, Group Director of Health Safety and Environment, said: “We are delighted that Jumeirah has been recognised with the Sustainability Leader Award after successfully gaining accreditation for six properties in the UAE. Globally, we have a further eight properties registered that are awaiting accreditation. Jumeirah places great emphasis on improving the brand’s economic, social and environmental sustainability which wouldn’t be possible without the passion, dedication and commitment from all colleagues across the brand.”
Jumeirah Emirates Towers was the first property to receive the GGC and has been approved for the third year running. The hotel’s current audit score of 91% is the highest in the UAE and the Gulf region. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah was awarded the GCC after impressing in all areas of the audit, Jumeirah Beach Hotel was certified for its outstanding sustainability management plan and Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence became the first mixed-use property in Dubai to be accredited. Jumeirah Zabeel Saray scored 90% on their first audit which was a record achievement and Jumeirah at Etihad Towers recently scored 85%.
The Green Globe Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses and their supply chain partners. Businesses can monitor improvements and document achievements leading to certification of their enterprises’ sustainable operation and management.
