Madinat Jumeirah to launch ‘Tortuga’ the latest Mexican restaurant on Dubai’s dining scene

Dubai, 19 December 2013: Madinat Jumeirah is set to introduce a new dining concept in Dubai with the launch of its Mexican Kitchen and Bar, ‘Tortuga, this month.  Designed as an invitation to the glories of Mexican cuisine and culture, this new dining landmark offers a culinary journey to a Mexican home, mixing warm hospitality and fresh ingredients in a rustic interior setting.

Headed by award-winning Mexican Chef Carlos Hannon, Tortuga’s cuisine and atmosphere are all about sharing his passion and love for authentic food and vibrant life with Dubai residents.

“I have always loved how food brings people together. In Mexico, the kitchen is a real hub where we all come together and share our stories. You haven’t experienced Mexico unless you have been invited in a Mexican home for dinner,” says Carlos Hannon.

“From a very young age, I would watch my grandmother Elena cook at home. It was magic. The ingredients would turn into new colours, scents or flavours depending on how and when she would add them in. She is my inspiration.”

Overlooking the tranquil waters of Mina A’Salam, with views of the Arabian Gulf, Tortuga offers an authentic Mexican dining experience, including a Tortilla live cooking station, Molcajete (melted cheese in a hot volcanic bowl), Churros (crunchy fried choux pastry) and a multitude of fresh Mexican delicacies.

‘Tortuga’, which means turtle in Spanish, reflects the fact that Mina A’Salam hosts a group of turtles in a specially designed pen within the waterways of Madinat Jumeirah, which are in the final stages of convalescence after being restored to health at the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project at Burj Al Arab and before being released back into the Arabian Gulf.

Open for lunch and dinner, guests can pair their dishes with an impressive array of Mexican and other beverages from Tortuga’s bar. To complete the Mexican experience, the restaurant also offers live entertainment.

In addition to its culinary creations, the venue is designed to reflect Mexico’s fun atmosphere and its rich cultural traditions. The interior offers a warm and rustic environment with bright colours and friendly staff. To complement the experience, Tortuga also features an outdoor terrace to offer diners views of the Arabian Gulf.

With over 40 restaurants and bars, Madinat Jumeirah offers Dubai residents a place to relax and escape from the city’s daily routine.
