Burj Al Arab announces the winner of its global Romance competition

Dubai, 14 February 2013: Burj Al Arab, the World’s Most Luxurious Hotel, announced today the winner of its global Romance competition. The Romance competition, encouraged participants to share their most romantic story on the hotel’s dedicated website www.burjalarabromance.com for a chance to win a four-night Gold Package stay at the hotel. 

The winner, Mrs. Jayne Aiken, a British expat currently living in Dubai, submitted her beautiful romantic story that started in the Cayman Islands in 2004. Separated from each other shortly after the hurricane hit the Cayman Islands, Jayne and Paul were relocated to England and China respectively. They continued their romantic story against the odds and cemented their romance in Paris. Eight years on, they are happily married and living in Dubai with their two beautiful daughters.

“We rarely enter competitions but the chance to stay at the Burj al Arab was such a fantastic prize that we just had to write our story and hope we were chosen", said Jayne Aiken, when notified that she was the lucky winner. “We were so surprised but thrilled at the same time that we won the competition. We often drive past the Burj Al Arab and dream about a stay in the hotel that to us is the embodiment of romance.”

Mrs. Aiken’s entry was one of the ten shortlisted stories selected from over 300 submissions by the celebrity novelist, Mr. Zahi Wehbe - a renowned Lebanese poet, TV host and  journalist. Mr. Wehbe based his decision on the creativity, originality and relevance to the theme of the competition. 

In the end, it was Mrs. Aiken’s story that grabbed his attention.“I was delighted to work with Burj Al Arab on such a great project that encouraged married couples to dig deep in their hearts and memories and recall the most beautiful moments of their lives”, said Mr. Zahi Wehbe, “I was touched to see how far some individuals were prepared to go, only to be with their beloved one.”

Mr. and Mrs. Aiken will now get to experience Burj Al Arab’s Gold Package, which includes a four-night stay at the hotel, a Rolls Royce Phantom scenic drive and an intimate beachside dinner.

Zahi Wehbe is a renowned journalist and poet from Lebanon. He has been working in journalism for 27 years and presented some of the most famous programmes in the Arab world, such as “Khaleek Bel Bait” (“Stay at Home”), which  has aired for the past 15 years, and “Set Al Habayeb” (“Mums”).Mr. Wehbe has published 18 poetry books and some of his poetry which has been translated into French, English and Spanish.
