Dubai, 16th July 2011: Jumeirah hotels yesterday celebrated mid-Sha'ban, which falls on the 15th of the Muslim month of Sha'ban. “Hag Al Leilah” is the traditional name for this night of festivities with family and neighbours.
Throughout the day, colleagues and Wild Wadi characters in the lobby of Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Mina A’ Salam, Al Qasr, Souk Madinat and Burj Al Arab handed out sweets and nuts to children and guests. A sign was also posted with a short explanation in English and Arabic of the concept behind “Hag Al Leilah”.

About Mid-Sha'ban (A'atoona Hag Al Leilah)
Mid-Sha'ban is the 15th day of the Muslim month of Sha’ban and in the Arab world is known as Laylatun Nisfe min Sha’ban.
“Hag Al Leilah” is the traditional name for this night of festivities with family, friends and neighbours.
Passed down from previous generations, “Hag Al Leilah” is a custom that involves children knocking on their neighbours’ doors and asking for small offerings of traditional sweets. They often say the phrase: 'A'atoona Hag Al Leilah', which means “Give us sweets for tonight”.
The Jumeirah hotels’ initiative is culturally connecting, highlighting the UAE culture; encouraging children in the UAE to rediscover their heritage in a beautiful atmosphere, and educating guests about the traditions of the country.
