Explore Kuwait's Tranquil Seas and Stylish Marina
30 Aug 2018

Tranquil seas, a stylish marina and one of the largest boating markets in the Gulf render Kuwait a veritable yachting paradise. Kuwait has nine islands off its shore, and witnessing their desert beauty on the water is a must. From sleek superyacht life, to fishing boat tours, our guide to boating in Kuwait will take you straight to the heart of the Gulf country’s compelling marine culture.

With its sophisticated Marina Crescent – an elegant stretch along the waterfront offering 144 berths and a yacht club, Kuwait has an abundance of boating facilities on offer. It’s useful to know that the boating season in Kuwait is from April to September, the opposite of UAE countries.

Sailing – If you fancy setting sail on a private ocean adventure, consider chartering your own luxury yacht. Based in Salmiya, Silsan offers quality 15-berth yachts for charter and hire. International charter specialist Fraser has a Kuwait office, too.

Powerboating – Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of jetting off at top speed along azure Gulf waters on a powerboat. Those seeking a breezy daredevil ride should check out Powerboat and Safari.

Fishing – Spend the day angling out at sea for amberjacks and cobias on a Kuwait fishing trip.  SeaQuest Trips and Captain Salim offer exciting ocean voyages for groups of up to 10.

Island excursions – Kuwait’s nine islands beg to be explored and the best way to do this is via a boat excursion. Visit the uninhabited Kubbar Island, a tranquil spot surrounded by coral reefs, perfect for snorkelling. Trips run from Silsan Boat Club. There’s also a ferry service to Failaka Island departing from Ras Salmiya.

Experience the yachting lifestyle back on land at Marina Mall. Connected to Marina Crescent’s waterfront by a glass-walled bridge, this modern shopping complex is home to more than 150 stores. Shop the new season’s collections at DKNY or Zara. Along Marina Crescent itself, there are sea-view cafés and restaurants such as Le Pain Quotidien serving easy French bites or American diner Johnny Rockets. Here, you can unwind after a day at sea and watch the sun go down.

Heralding the start of the marine year each March, the prestigious Kuwait Yacht Show takes place at Marina Crescent. Showcasing a glistening fleet of vessels and yacht-life accessories, it’s a must-visit event for those of a nautical persuasion. Aside from viewing the finest of superyachts, day cruisers and lightweight crafts, you can peruse stylish clothing, artisanal timepieces and start-of-the-art marine technology. Mingle with industry insiders, traders and sailors and do some serious window shopping while you’re there.

Positioned on the waterfront overlooking the shimmering Gulf, the luxurious Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa is the ultimate place to start your boating in Kuwait adventure.
