Our A-Z of Dubai
02 Sep 2018

From Al Fahidi to Zabeel Park, we’ve raced through the alphabet of Dubai to bring you the shimmering Emirati city’s best place to visit, eat, explore and experience. Discover them all with our A-Z of Dubai.

A is for Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood

A snapshot of old Arabian life, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is all honey-coloured buildings, narrow alleyways, galleries and cafés.

B is for Burj Khalifa

Get a knee-trembling bird’s-eye view of Dubai atop Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. You won’t believe the views.

C is for Creek

The curved stretch of water that snakes through the city, Dubai Creek is its lifeblood. Jump on an abra boat and witness the city’s sights from the water.

D is for Downtown

Go Downtown to be part of the action. In this dynamic hub you’ll find Dubai Mall, the Aquarium, Burj Park and Dubai Opera.

E is for Emirates

Dubai is part of the United Arab Emirates, the Middle Eastern state on the Persian Gulf that comprises Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain.

F is for Fountain

For the ultimate evening spectacle, Dubai Fountain – the world’s largest – dazzles spectators with a watery display choreographed to music and lights.

G is for Gold Souk

Go on a treasure hunt at Dubai Gold Souk; an Aladdin’s Cave of shimmering gold, silver and diamond jewellery.

H is for Hajar Mountains

A few hours outside of Dubai, the scenic Hajar Mountains make a fantastic day-trip destination. Hike, go biking or paddle out in a kayak on Hatta Lake.

I is for IMG Worlds of Adventure

The IMG Worlds of Adventure indoor theme park is, like so many things in Dubai, the world’s largest. Expect daredevil Marvel rides and dinosaur-themed attractions.

J is for Jumeirah

No A-Z of Dubai would be complete without a mention of the beautiful coastal suburb of Jumeriah, home to stunning hotels such as Madinat Jumeirah Resort, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the iconic, sail-shaped Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

K is for Kite Beach

Where locals and tourists alike head for some pulse-raising activities by the sea, Kite Beach is a great spot for watersports, volleyball, beach tennis and kayaking.

L is for Legoland

A pleasure paradise with rides and a water park dedicated to the colourful little bricks, Legoland is a great Dubai day out for little kids (and big ones).

M is for Manousheh

If you eat one local dish while in Dubai, make it a manousheh; a Middle Eastern pizza-style flatbread, generously topped with cheese, thyme and minced meat.

N is for Nightlife

After dark, Dubai buzzes with the beat of world-class international DJs. There’s so much to explore at night, from sky-high panoramic lounges to the city’s many souks.

O is for Outlet Mall

Dubai is never short of shimmering malls, and the Outlet Mall is its number one spot to shop designer brands like Burberry and DKNY at a discount.

P is for Palm Jumeirah

From above, this palm-shaped archipelago is instantly recognisable as one of Dubai’s signature landmarks. Be bold and take a skydive above the Palm Jumeirah.

Q is for Quran

The Quran is the holy book of Islam, which is the official religion of the UAE.

R is for Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

A wetland reserve on the curve of Dubai Creek, Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place for nature-lovers to witness flocks of pink flamingos, herons and osprey.

S is for Spice Souk

Wander through the maze of Dubai’s spice souk and inhale the aroma of fragrant cinnamon, saffron and incense. The piles of perfumed colour are a delight to see and smell.

T is for The World Islands

A 300-strong islet chain in the shape of the Earth’s continents, The World Islands seemingly float offshore from Jumeriah. Luxury residences and hotels are currently being developed on them.

U is for Underwater Zoo

Go eye-to-eye with nature’s aquatic wonders at Dubai Underwater Zoo. There’s the gigantic King Croc, sharks galore and some less terrifying clownfish, too.

V is for Virtual Reality

Gamers and tech-heads will love VR Park, a two-storey virtual and augmented reality wonderland. Experience Dubai life in 4D or man your own spaceship.

W is for Wild Wadi Waterpark

Wild Wadi Waterpark has thrills and spills galore with its exhilarating rides. Slip-slide your way down the lightning-fast Jumeirah Sceirah and ride the tides of Flood River.

X is for X-treme sports

Sandboarding in the desert, bungee jumping from up high, flyboarding on the Gulf: Dubai is the spiritual home of adrenaline-raising extreme sports.

Y is for Yacht life

Stroll along Dubai Marina and you’ll spot row upon row of super-yachts moored up. Bigger is better here, and you can hire your own for a cruise around the Gulf.

Z is for Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, an iconic destination nestled on the quiet, pristine West Crescent of Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, stands as an ode to the excellence of the Ottoman era. Inspired by the historic Turkish empire, the exquisitely done interiors of our 379 elegant guest rooms, 26 lavish suites, and 38 Royal Residences are a testimony to the magnificence of the golden Tulip era. From carefully hand-painted interiors and stunning unrivalled views of the Arabian Gulf, guests indulge their senses within the resort, and beyond.
