Bahrain Coffee Culture: Five of the Best Coffee Shops in Manama
02 Aug 2018

Trendy modern cafes. Sophisticated lounges. Traditional Arabian coffee houses. Bahrain’s capital, Manama, has plenty of superb places to get your caffeine fix. Whether you’re after a quick pick-me-up before a business meeting or somewhere to catch up with friends over a perfectly brewed latte, we’ve travelled to Manama to uncover Bahrain best coffee shops.

Crust and Crema

For those who take their java seriously, Crust & Crema should be at the top of your list. A cool and contemporary café—and Bahrain’s first and only in-house roastery—they roast green beans using their own blend of 100% Arabica beans from all over the world. Sip a slowly prepared drip coffee, a refreshing Arabic frappe or indulge in an Italian-inspired affogato float. Crust & Crema even create their own unique coffee jelly shards to perk up your brew!

The Palm Lounge

Occupying the elegant Jumeirah Royal Saray hotel, The Palm Lounge is a refined spot where you can relax in style and enjoy some of the best coffee in Bahrain. Order yourself a world-class coffee (prepared by expert baristas flown in from Colombia), and recline in impeccable surrounds on an inviting sofa beneath shimmering chandeliers.

Al Bindaira

With its high ceilings and Moorish arches, Al Bindaira is the place to go for a truly authentic Arabian experience. Pull up a chair in the show-stopping atrium or relax outside on the leafy terrace. What to drink? Of course, you’ll find crowd-pleasing classics like cappuccinos and macchiatos, but it’s best to savour the real deal with their Arabic coffee with dates or signature Al Bindaira Turkish coffee. Complement your coffee with fruity shisha and tasty mezze.

Café Lilou

Bringing a little slice of Paris to Bahrain, Café Lilou marries French fin de siècle flair with Arabian flavours. Sink into a plush velvet sofa and order an iced frappe or their much-loved red latte. It’d be rude not to indulge in one of Café Lilou’s Instagram-worthy desserts like sticky hot date pudding with vanilla ice cream and pecans or rose water ice cream with crunchy vermicelli.

Maya La Chocolaterie

As its name suggests, Maya La Chocolaterie deals first and foremost in aromatic brown beans of a different kind—chocolate. However, located in the Seef Mall, this tempting chocolate shop also moonlights as a café, serving up rich, strong, creamy coffee. Get one topped with fresh cream and sprinkled with their micro crispy chocolate balls. Of course, your coffee wouldn’t be complete without a sweet accompaniment to dunk and devour, like a chocolate covered croissant.
