Arabian Adventures – Nature Trails
Without biodiversity, our life would not be possible. Biodiversity is the greatest treasure on earth, our basis of life and the most important asset in future.
Experiential tourism in Abu Dhabi (Bio Diversity in desert, mountains, sea, Mangroves in U.A.E)has been made available to the guest at the Concierge desk of the hotel. Guests can obtain information about the biodiversity, protected areas, alternative transpiration (e.g. ecofriendly, hybrid cars) available in Abu Dhabi. This information is also available on an iPad placed at the concierge desk.
Colleagues at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers are trained to guide guests towards the cultural sights and events and/or entertainment/restaurants that the guests are most interested in. Local UAE culture and idiosyncrasies can be explained and discussed with guests, but mainly in a nice-to-know form, as the culture is significantly different from anywhere else in the western part of the world, from where we have a substantial amount of guests coming from. Guest can read through the basic do’s and don’ts in their complementary tourist guide ‘Discover Abu Dhabi’.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers places great emphasis on being a part of the local environment in regards to cultural and social activities, as well as incorporating the use of local food, and competencies from local businesses. Very strong preference is given to fair trade and eco-certified suppliers – we will often choose to not have a service or product, rather than compromising our integrity.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers had introduced new bathroom amenities called “BeeKind” in the standard rooms of the hotel and serviced residences as part of our Green Globe initiatives. “BeeKind” is an Eco-Friendly product as the honey bee population is in crisis and a portion of the proceeds of this product supports Honey Bee and sustainable pollination research.
Black and gray waste water is managed by the city in a non-polluting way, and does not affect public health. This is mandatory and unavoidable by UAE law. We minimize our output of printed matter, and prefer to communicate through our website (which is CO2 neutral). Our suppliers often bring their products in crates and cases which are taken back and reused. Every attempt is made to increase the awareness of the suppliers to avoid using disposable crates and cases wherever possible.
Energy and Water Saving
Refrigerator and freezer temperatures are measured and monitored on a constant basis by the culinary colleagues. Energy usage is specified and recorded. Motion sensors for lights are established in some of the areas, feasibility to cover more areas is considered. All rooms need room key in order to turn on lights – whereby all electric appliances are turned off when the guest is not in the room. Only low-energy light bulbs are used throughout the property, and outdoor lighting is controlled by a timer.
Bed linen, duvets and towels that are too used for the hotel needs but still usable, are donated to charity.
Native plants or low water-need plants are grown in landscaping to minimize water use in outdoor garden areas.
All colleague laundry is washed in-house with environmentally friendly detergents. All back-office computer and electronic equipment are shut down when the work-day is over. Meeting rooms lighting and equipment are shut down when not in use. Water usage is monitored and specified.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers recycles above and beyond the national requirements. We have asked for specific glass, cardboard and paper recycling bins, and encourage guests to help us with our recycling. We try to produce as little waste as possible, and nothing is thrown out that can be used again.
