Bodu Beru

Bodu Beru

Thousands of years ago, sailors from the Indian Ocean landed on the verdant islands of the Maldives bringing with them the primal rhythm of Bodu Beru drumming.

Often known as “vibrating the island”, guests at Jumeirah Vitavelli can feel the very heartbeat of the Maldives in the ancient tempo of this traditional art form invoking songs of heroism, romance or sometimes, simple vocal undulations.

A favourite with guests on rainy days, Bodu Beru lessons create an electric atmosphere at the resort as do the enthralling performances that make up our weekly celebration of island culture.
