Seven Ways to Experience Mallorca

Uncover culture, craft, and coastlines in the heart of the Balearics

About 40 minutes north of Palma, Port de Sóller rests gracefully between the Tramuntana mountains and the glimmering Mediterranean. Its crescent-shaped bay is a picture of tranquility, where fishing boats sway in the harbour and the wooden tram hums gently past citrus groves en route to Sóller. From this idyllic base, trails lead through terraced olive groves and up into the mountains, while the coastline unfolds into secluded coves and wide blue horizons.

Anchored by its natural beauty and rich heritage, Port de Sóller offers a slower rhythm of life – one that invites exploration. From Jumeirah Mallorca, guests can set out on invigorating hikes through the UNESCO-listed Tramuntana mountain range, wander vineyards at private finca, or discover the island’s enduring craftmanship.

With culture, craft, and nature all entwined, here are seven ways to experience Mallorca.

The Sóller Valley Experience – Orange Fields

Port de Sóller owes much of its legacy to citrus. In the 19th century, the port flourished thanks to its thriving citrus fruit trade, a heritage still deeply rooted in the region’s culture today, nearly 200 years later. A guided tour of the valley reveals how local artisans continue to transform the regions bounty into marmalades, citrus liqueurs, and fragrant soaps – all crafted from over 50 different types of fruit trees. The visit culminates at  Sa Vinyassa, an 18,000 square-metre orchard set beneath the golden slopes of the Alfabia Ridge.

Cycle Like a Pro

Mallorca is a renowned cycling destination, and Port de Sóller is a wonderful place to get out on two wheels. Jumeirah Mallorca has mapped an array of routes that range from the gentle ascent through Fornalutx and Biniaraix to the legendary 26-hairpin climb of Sa Calobra, tracing some of the island’s most scenic climbs and descents. Whether pedalling solo or joining a guided ride, exploring Mallorca by bike, offers a fresh perspective on its rugged beauty.

Tramuntana Sunset Boat Trip

As the afternoon light softens, few experiences rival a sunset voyage along Mallorca’s coast. Departing from Port de Sóller, the boat glides over calm azure waters, framed by the limestone cliffs and the rising silhouette of the Tramuntana mountains. Along the way, the coastline reveals hidden coves such as Cala Tuent and Sa Calobra, where pine trees tumble down to the water’s edge and the scent of sea salt mingles with wild rosemary on the breeze. Guests can pause to swim in the warm Mediterranean or snorkel in sheltered bays, before watching the sun melt into the horizon – the quiet magic of Mallorca at golden hour.

Sound Bathing at Torre Picada

High above the sea, Torre Picada stands sentinel over the coastline - a 17th-century watchtower built to defend Sóller from pirate invasions, and surrounded by a forest trail of pines and holm oaks. A guided sound bathing session here, blends gentle movement, meditation, and the natural rhythm of the waves below, accompanied by the resonant tones of crystal singing bowls, gongs, and chimes. Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku or forest bathing, the experience offers a mindful escape and invites guests to engage all their senses – an opportunity to breathe deeply, slow down, and reconnect with nature in the heart of the Tramuntana.

Island Helicopter Tour

For a view few ever experience, a private helicopter flight offers a breathtaking perspective over Mallorca’s diverse landscapes. Taking off from Port de Sóller, the journey soars above the rugged Tramuntana mountains - their limestone peaks etched against the sky - before tracing the island’s northern coastline where cliffs plunge dramatically into turquoise seas. From this height, Mallorca’s contrasts unfold in vivid detail: the emerald canopy of pine forests, the silvery sheen of olive groves, and the glimmering coves that curve around the coast.

Whilst a variety of options are available, the 90-minute flight reveals the island as a living canvas, shifting from the ochre tones of ancient villages to the dazzling blues of the Mediterranean. Passengers might spot the graceful horseshoe bay of Port de Pollença, the Cap de Formentor lighthouse perched at the island’s northern tip, and the vast sweep of almond and orange groves that ripple across the plains below.

Private Finca Lunch at Macià Batle

Cultivating vines for more than 160 years, Macià Batle opens its doors near Santa Maria to a slower, more rooted way of life. Rows of native grape varieties including Manto Negro, Callet, and Prensal Blanc, stretch toward the Tramuntana foothills, their roots deep in the island’s limestone soil.

Visitors are welcomed into the family’s world with a private tour of the vineyards and cellars, where the scent of oak barrels and fermenting grapes linger in the cool air. A guided tasting reveals the character of each bottle and a leisurely three-course lunch within the estate’s historic finca, served on the terrace, culminates the experience. Each dish celebrates the island’s seasonal produce and paired thoughtfully with vintages produced just metres away.

Gourmet Rail Adventure

Step aboard the vintage wooden train that has linked Sóller and Palma since 1912. Handcrafted from mahogany and brass fittings, wide windows carry you back in time as it rattles through citrus orchards, olive terraces, and tunnels carved into the Tramuntana mountains. Along the way, a curated tasting celebrates Mallorca’s culinary heritage – from crisp local vintages and artisanal cheeses to sobrassada, ensaimadas, and other traditional delicacies sourced from family-run producers in the region.
