The Many Moods of a London Summer

There is something especially dazzling about a London summer. Parks fill with picnic blankets and laughter, the world's greatest sporting events take over the calendar, and even the city's most hurried residents seem to find an extra hour for the sun.
At the heart of all this sits Jumeirah Carlton Tower, tucked into the leafy calm of Knightsbridge with the private green expanse of Cadogan Gardens just beyond its doors. From here, a summer day can take countless forms. These are three of our favourites.
A Day in Pursuit of Wellbeing
The warmer months bring an earlier dawn to London, and there's good reason to make the most of it, as morning light does plenty for both mood and energy.
A ten-minute walk from the hotel leads into Hyde Park, perfect for a brisk run, or a slower wander past the Serpentine, where swans and geese drift across the water. A detour to the Serpentine Gallery is always worth it, and there's no shortage of cafés nearby for a coffee before heading back.
Closer to home, mornings might begin with a swim in The Peak Fitness Club & Spa’s naturally lit pool, one of London's largest, or one of the club's many classes, whether that’s strength, Pilates, or yoga. Afterwards, The Peak Lounge is the natural next move, its floor-to-ceiling windows framing sweeping skyline views, perfect for a fresh juice or light breakfast.
As the day eases into afternoon, the spa beckons. Spoil yourself with a facial, or surrender to one of the spa's signature rituals. The Lymphatic Support Ritual is a deeply sedating, full-body experience designed to encourage lymphatic flow and guide the body into a state of rest and renewal. Or opt for the revolutionary Swissline Cell Shock treatment, using Maderotherapy's wooden tools and sculpting massage to firm and contour the arms, legs and stomach while stimulating circulation.
One of the joys of an English summer is how long the days run. At its peak, the sun doesn't set until close to 9.30pm, leaving plenty of evening to enjoy. A late game of tennis at Cadogan Gardens, exclusive to the hotel's guests, makes the most of that golden hour, before heading back for dinner at La Maison Ani, where French classics are served with a Mediterranean touch.
A Day Steeped in Tradition
Few things capture an English summer quite like its long-held traditions, and there's no better way to feel part of the city than to take part in them.
Afternoon tea remains one of Britain’s defining rituals, with its delicate sandwiches, scones served with cream and jam, and a proper pot of tea. The custom dates back to the 1840s, when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford and a close confidante of Queen Victoria, began serving tea and light bites to stave off hunger before a late dinner. At Jumeirah Carlton Tower, the tradition continues at The Chinoiserie with A Tribute to Nature, a seasonal afternoon tea inspired by the gardens next door and recently named Best Contemporary Afternoon Tea 2026 by afternoontea.co.uk.
For those who'd rather take the experience outdoors, the hotel's Scone & Picnic Pairing brings A Tribute to Nature into the private calmness of Cadogan Gardens. A beautifully prepared hamper of buttery pastries and savoury treats provides everything needed to while away a few unhurried hours beneath a cloudless sky.
Summer also calls for some of Britain's best-loved traditions. Savour the iconic combination of strawberries and cream while watching the finest players, clad head to toe in white, compete at Wimbledon, or trade tennis whites for cricket whites at Lord's, where blazers and Panama hats still gather for a Test match and its ritual tea interval. For something quieter, slip through the gates of the Chelsea Physic Garden, London's oldest botanic garden, a five-minute walk from Cadogan Gardens and home to rare medicinal specimens cultivated for over 350 years. As evening draws in, the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington comes alive with the BBC Proms, running nightly from mid-July to September beneath its famous domed roof.
A Day for the Culturally Curious
Whatever the season, the capital’s cultural life is among the world's richest. With longer days and a calendar filled with open-air performances and exhibitions, this is an especially rewarding time to explore it.
A short walk from the hotel, Chelsea's Saatchi Gallery has built an international reputation for championing contemporary art. Renowned for spotlighting emerging talent alongside internationally recognised artists, its ever-changing exhibitions reward repeat visits.
A little further, South Kensington's museum quarter is a destination in itself: Hope, the 25-metre blue whale skeleton suspended above the Natural History Museum's Hintze Hall, draws gasps from young and old alike, as does the animatronic dinosaur gallery nearby, while the Science Museum's hands-on exhibits keep curious minds entertained for hours.
Fashion, too, is its own kind of art. Bond Street has long been synonymous with luxury's most celebrated maisons, while right outside the hotel, Sloane Street offers its own elegant collection of boutiques and ateliers. New this season, Gilan, the Istanbul house renowned for its Ottoman-inspired high jewellery, launches an indoor pop-up on the hotel's ground floor, open daily from 1pm to 9pm.
As evening falls, there's something distinctly London about dressing up for a night at the theatre, stepping into one of its grand, historic playhouses in the West End. Or, for something different, venture to Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, an amphitheatre tucked inside Queen Mary's Gardens, where acclaimed productions, from Shakespearean classics to celebrated musicals, are brought to life beneath the surrounding trees.
Blue skies, golden evenings, and a city that seems to wear a permanent smile, this is summer in London at its finest. Whichever path the day takes, through movement, tradition or culture, it begins and ends in the comfort of Jumeirah Carlton Tower.
