There is something enduringly romantic about Italy’s coastline and the fresh off-the-boat seafood that is drawn from its surrounding cerulean waters. Nothing typifies this more than Pierchic, our stylish Italian restaurant at Jumeirah Al Qasr in Dubai, helmed by chef Beatrice Segoni, overlooking the sparkling waters of the Arabian Gulf.

The Food

Most culinary cultures around the world celebrate raw food in some format; with Italy it is the Southern Italian crudo where fish and shellfish are plucked from the coastal waters and eaten raw with a little lemon or an intricately elegant dressing. This comes to the fore at Pierchic in the Crudo Bar, with its oyster, simple bluefin tuna and truffle, or marinated yellowtail Hamachi. Beyond the crudo the menu opens up into more traditional Italian antipasti that range from scallops, octopus and fritto misto to the wonderfully rich burrata. Freshly made pasta dominates the primi piatti with a signature Chitarrine alla Pescatora that infuses its shellfish with a delicate flavour. The secondi’s focus on fish and a magnificently unctuous bouillabaisse transports diners back to the shores of the quietly lapping Mediterranean. Make sure to save room for Beatrice’s delicious dolce where she has reinvented some classic Italian desserts.

Pierchic chef Beatrice

The chef

Having started her life in fashion, celebrated chef Beatrice Segoni has been channelling her creativity and sophistication into the culinary world ever since. Chef Beatrice owned her own restaurant on the coast in Marche in the village of Porto Recanati, on the coast in Marche, where she grew up, before moving on to work at Florence’s renowned Borgo San Jacopo for 14 years. From there Chef Beatrice started a new adventure at Pierchic, where she puts her heart and soul into every dish. “I hope every guest that tastes my food realises that I cook with all my heart,” she says, “The success of any restaurant comes from the passion that the chef puts into every single dish."

The views

Aside from the delicious food, Pierchic’s other draw is the breath-taking views from its large glass walls out over the Arabian Gulf. Pierchic’s location on Jumeirah Al Qasr’s private pier gives diners the feeling of floating gently above the water. To one side is the iconic, sail-shaped Burj Al Arab reaching skyward and so defining Dubai’s skyline, to the other is Palm Jumeirah, another enduring symbol of the Emirate, while straight ahead the twinkling waters of the Gulf disappear into the horizon.

The design and décor

Reached by crossing the vast wooden pier at Madinat Jumeirah, Pierchic feels like a romantic world away from the hustle and bustle of Dubai. Complete with wood panelling, matching wide square-shaped chairs and floor-to-ceiling windows, there’s a seamless connection with the water outside. Designer Khan Chew from KCA International has filled the interiors in light, natural colours for a cool and casual feel, with large fishnet-like chandeliers floating above the bar, where the changing lights create a bright and airy atmosphere.
