Downtown Dubai is one of the UAE’s most coveted addresses. Rooftop bars, chic cafes and retail heaven, plus stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and Burj Park, create a combination of excitement and serenity in the heart of the emirate’s capital. Here’s how to get the most from a day in Downtown Dubai:

Brunch

A day in Downtown Dubai wouldn't be complete without a world-class Friday brunch. Luckily, there’s the Burj Club, situated on the 124th and 125th floors of Dubai’s most iconic building, the Burj Khalifa. Panoramic views over the whole of Dubai are on full display from the rooftop, and there's an incredible international spread of fine-dining to choose from. An outdoor pool and DJ complete the atmosphere, giving the Burj Club perhaps the biggest brunch scene in Dubai.

Shopping

Back on the ground floor, it’s a short walk around Burj Khalifa Lake to the most extravagant shopping centres of Dubai. The capital is awash with high-end retail choices, but nothing quite comes close to the sheer spectacle of Dubai Mall. With over 1,300 stores, it’s enough to keep you mesmerised for the whole day. Pride of place is Fashion Avenue, a gorgeous triple-deckered boulevard housing row after row of the world’s most enviable brands. From the exclusive, crafted leather accessories of Moynat, to the fragrant mists of Tom Ford, you’ll find your perfect show-stopping outfit here.

Dubai Mall

Nearby, and overlooking the hypnotic displays of Burj Lake’s Dubai Fountain, is the Souk al Bahar. The souk is an enchanting Arabesque shopping centre with its historic interiors and beautiful boutiques. Local is the watchword here — in addition to Gulf designer fashion, shoppers will discover antique carpets, award-winning contemporary art and dazzling jewellery pieces.

Evening

Exploring the souks can work up an appetite, so we recommend treating yourself at the vibrant cafes, restaurants, and bars that light up as the day comes to a close. For tea and coffee, look no further than Dubai Mall’s Angelina, a Parisian patisserie set across a gorgeous Belle-Époque-come-contemporary sitting room. Angelina specialises in high tea, where you should look out for what might be the world’s most indulgent hot chocolate, 'L’Africain'.

Dubai Opera

If you’re in the mood for light-hearted cocktails and a vibrant atmosphere, look no further than CLAW, Souk al Bahar’s Americana seafood bar. Its interior evokes the bric-a-brac walls of an eclectic East-coast dive, while, outdoors, a fairy-lit terrace overlooks the bustle of downtown.
