A delicate balance exists between the power of nature, and the humans gracing our planet. This philosophy, deeply sensorial, has guided the design of our garden at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab in Dubai. An immediate sense of unity and equality is felt with every step. A testament to the art of harmonious landscaping, where each plant is carefully chosen to evoke the essence of the region.

Inside this oasis, details are thoughtfully crafted to awaken the senses. From the delicate perfume of blossoms drifting through the air to the subtle sounds of nature and flowing water features, each element is designed to soothe the mind through a transformative experience. As you wander, you feel your spirits lifted, and a sense of lightness returning to you.

The garden is a visual extension of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, where nature and architectural elements coalesce amicably. Here, from our unique vantage point, you are treated to a mesmerising panorama. Out to the west, the iconic Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, its sail-shaped silhouette seemingly billowing in the breeze. This sense of serenity and detachment is central to the resort experience, allowing you to drift off to a different world for a quiet moment.

The gardens are bathed in the Arabian Gulf's soft light, which has profoundly influenced the landscape's conception. Native plant species are attuned to the region's climate and ecosystem, and thrive here. Cultural and historical elements of the region are interwoven into the garden’s expanse of vibrant plant species and quiet pathways, creating a sense of place and a connection to our local heritage.

A significant environmental nod to the local landscape is the creation of berms, raised banks, throughout the resort, mimicking the undulating desert dunes of our homeland. The sheer number of 3,100 palms, 1,300 trees, and over 200,000 shrubs incorporated into the landscape design evokes the discovery of a lush tropical oasis in the heart of the dunes. A subtle reminder of the generosity of our ancestors, who would provide shelter and nourishment without question to welcome and soothe weary travellers from around the world who crossed our paths.

The journey to create Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab's landscape was not without its challenges. Initial hurdles included an undefined planting hierarchy and the selection of unsuitable species. Through careful reorganisation and thoughtful replacements, such as the substitution of the Pandanus species, a balanced and structured landscape emerged. The coastal environment presented additional obstacles, requiring expert collaboration and meticulous planning. By balancing aesthetics with ecological principles, these challenges were successfully navigated, resulting in a landscape that thrives in its seaside setting.

At Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, sustainability is not merely a goal; it is an integral part of our design. Innovative techniques, such as dual water supplies, advanced irrigation systems, and the strategic application of hydro perlite, foster a relationship between the project and its environment.

The irrigation system, linked to a weather station, adapts to changing conditions, ensuring efficient water usage. Mulch, both functional and aesthetically pleasing, helps retain soil moisture and minimises evaporation. These elements collectively contribute to a landscape that is both resilient and environmentally responsible.

With a sincere respect for the seaside aesthetic, strategic plantings enhance coastal vistas while providing moments of secluded tranquillity. Sustainable practices, such as the innovative integration of hydro perlite, ensure the landscape's resilience and ecological harmony.

This transformation of the environment into a lush, tropical garden akin to Bali’s terraced rice paddies is a remarkable feat of landscaping in Dubai’s unique terrain. The result is a captivating space that not only delights the senses but also offers an escape from the ordinary.
