Amidst the bustling rhythm of modern life, it's common to feel disconnected. Prioritising self-care and seeking tranquillity for the mind, body, and soul isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Yoga, with its ancient roots and profound benefits, offers a refuge. It’s a practice that transcends mere physical exercise, fostering mental clarity and emotional resilience. Essentially, it carves out a space of calm where the soul’s melody can find its rhythm once more.
Imagine, then, this beautiful journey of inner harmony taking place within the iconic silhouette of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, where Adrienne Everett, a renowned practitioner within the international yoga community, has launched her exclusive pop-up yoga studio.
After transitioning from the stressful corridors of a career in finance to yoga’s serene embrace, Adrienne has not only transformed her own life, but aims to inspire change in others too. At the heart of Adrienne’s philosophy is the desire to share the healing power of yoga in settings that amplify its effects.
It’s no surprise that Adrienne has chosen Jumeirah Burj Al Arab as her setting, an architectural marvel resembling the grace of an Arabian dhow’s sail. Here, a sparkling saltwater infinity pool blends into the ocean, and a plethora of dining havens await for you to indulge post-practice. From shoreside Mediterranean flavours at Sal to the Parisian plates at Al Muntaha, curated by the renowned 3-Michelin-Star Chef Francky Semblat.
Alternatively, slip into serenity at Talise Spa, a tranquil oasis hovering 150 metres above the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf. With its 16 luxurious treatment and therapy rooms, saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools and a jacuzzi, guests are invited to unwind and rejuvenate amidst an ambiance awash with natural light and dazzling panoramas.
Positioned on the 18th floor of Talise Spa is Adrienne’s pop-up yoga studio, offering a welcoming retreat in the sky. As participants transition gracefully from one pose to another amidst the lofty heights, they are greeted with sweeping ocean views and Dubai’s glittering skyline. Adrienne’s sunset classes are particularly soul-stirring.
Take a peek below into an insider’s exclusive interview where Adrienne sheds light on important yoga rituals and her guiding mantra for 2024 below:
What aspect of Dubai captivates you the most?
To me, Dubai just offers endless opportunities. There’s this spirit of innovation and possibility that permeates the city, and the community is so friendly and receptive. It’s an exciting place, which allows you to really get creative and step into your own power.
What do you most enjoy about working at the different Jumeirah properties?
Working with Jumeirah properties has been an incredible experience. Each property has its own unique charm and ambiance, providing the perfect backdrop for yoga practice. I love the level of luxury, the clientele, and the openness to wellness that Jumeirah embodies - it’s quite rare and unique to see an organisation get so behind the movement.
Setting an intention is often emphasised as a crucial part of initiating yoga practice. Could you tell us why and offer guidance on how to set a meaningful intention?
Setting an intention is a powerful practice that helps to align our actions with our values and aspirations. If you start your session with a point of focus, something to guide you throughout, you will stick to it, and when it gets challenging, you can always return to the intention.
When setting an intention, it's important to reflect on what truly matters to us and what we wish to cultivate or let go of in our lives. Whether that’s cultivating compassion, letting go of fear, or focusing on being more present in day-to-day life, a meaningful intention can help us live with greater mindfulness - on and off the mat.
With the variety of yoga styles available, could you recommend a specific type of yoga for beginners?
If you're just dipping your toes into yoga, I'd say give Hatha or Vinyasa a go. They're great for easing into the basics, like correcting your postures and breathing. Hatha yoga focuses on alignment and holding postures, making it ideal for building strength and flexibility, while Vinyasa is all about flowing smoothly, from one move to the next, with your breath guiding you. I like the concept of syncing breath to movement – it’s kind of like a dance and I love to dance. It's not only good for your body but also does wonders for your mind.
Do you have a specific mantra that you’re embracing for the year of 2024?
I’m definitely embracing a mindset of abundance this year. Not just monetary abundance, but the abundance of time, opportunities, self-love, and self-care.
Looking ahead, do you have plans to launch more pop-up studios in other iconic locations around the world with Jumeirah? If so, which destinations are you considering?
Definitely! I’m looking to expand my work in the UAE, so watch this space, and I’m very interested in doing another yoga series at Jumeirah Capri Palace. It’s all very exciting. I would like the yoga and techniques I teach to positively impact as many people as possible.
What drives your decision to partner with a particular brand?
When it comes to collaborations, I align with brands that resonate with my personal ethos or have a compelling story. Sustainability and a genuine connection to the brand's mission are super important to me. If it’s a brand that I resonate with, and feels close to home, then I’m excited to work with them.
