A guide to spending a day in the capital's sunniest season

Beneath clear blue skies, the parks become a patchwork of picnic blankets, paperbacks and kids playing on the grass. Al fresco dining becomes one of the defining pleasures of the season, while the city's social calendar fills with garden parties, open-air concerts and the pageantry of Britain's most cherished sporting traditions.

At the centre of it all stands Jumeirah Carlton Tower, on a tucked-away square in Knightsbridge overlooking the private greenery of Cadogan Gardens, surrounded by tree-lined avenues and rows of Georgian red-brick townhouses. Few addresses place so much of the season within strolling distance.

Better still, summer is generous with its hours. Around the solstice, the sun rises before 5:00am and sets close to 9.30pm, leaving almost seventeen hours of daylight to chase the horizon and still make it home for golden hour. Here is one extraordinary way to spend them.

First Light

Summer mornings in London reward the early riser. Set out while the streets are still cool and Hyde Park, a ten minute walk from Jumeirah Carlton Tower, is at its loveliest: joggers loop the Serpentine, rowing boats knock gently at their moorings, and herons stand sentry at the water's edge. Those who prefer their exercise with a side of sightseeing can wander towards Green Park instead, following Constitution Hill beneath its avenue of trees until Buckingham Palace comes into view, blissfully free of the midday crowds.

There is, of course, no obligation to leave the hotel at all. High above the streets, The Peak Fitness Club & Spa offers a swim in one of London's largest naturally lit pools, while morning classes in strength, yoga and Pilates provide an energising start to the day. Breakfast awaits at The Peak Lounge, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame dazzling views across the city's skyline.

Out into the City

After breakfast, the neighbourhood is yours to explore, with Sloane Street right on your doorstep. One of London's most refined shopping addresses, it brings together iconic fashion houses, independent boutiques, cafés and galleries. Housed in the former Duke of York's Headquarters, the Saatchi Gallery is one of the area's cultural highlights, celebrated for championing emerging contemporary artists.

Fifteen minutes further west sits South Kensington's museum quarter, where the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum stand side by side. The former is presided over by Hope, the 25-metre blue whale suspended above its entrance hall, while the latter is a paradise for inquisitive minds of every age.

Alternatively, hail a taxi to the West End, where a matinee at one of its grand, historic playhouses makes a fine centrepiece to the day, and Bond Street's storied luxury maisons are temptingly close at hand.

The Social Season

The warmer months also bring Britain's great sporting occasions, many of them centuries-old traditions. These are days built around spectacle: the parade of hats and morning dress at Royal Ascot, afternoons spent riverside cheering on the crews at Henley Royal Regatta, strawberries and cream as the world's finest players battle it out in white at Wimbledon, and the unmistakable roar of engines at Silverstone. Each is as much a social occasion as a sporting one, and with tickets disappearing months in advance, planning ahead is well rewarded.

This year, the calendar welcomes another highlight. The 2026 European SailGP season opens in the harbour city of Portsmouth, an easy journey south of the capital. As the Official Hotel Partner of Emirates Great Britain SailGP, Jumeirah offers the perfect starting point for a day watching nature-powered F50 catamarans race across the Solent at astonishing speeds.

Hours spent out in the city earn a slower pace, and back at the hotel the choice is yours. Those seeking rest might retreat to the spa, where treatments range from deeply relaxing massages and facials to sculpting rituals that leave you feeling entirely renewed.

Others may prefer to honour that most British of customs: afternoon tea. At The Chinoiserie, A Tribute to Nature offers a botanical take on the tradition, with a delectable seasonal tea inspired by the gardens beside the hotel.

And if the sunshine proves irresistible, the Scone & Picnic Pairing brings the experience outdoors. A beautifully packed hamper accompanies you into Cadogan Gardens, the resident-only retreat where lavender lines the gravel paths and olive trees grow alongside wild herbs. A secluded tennis court sits hidden between the trees, ideal for a friendly match between bites of buttery scones with clotted cream.

As dusk settles over Knightsbridge and the last light catches the rooftops, London is at its dreamiest. This is a city that truly comes alive in the warmer months, its streets and squares brimming with world-class dining, art and entertainment, and an energy that is impossible to resist. However the hours are spent, Jumeirah Carlton Tower places you at the heart of it all: the perfect beginning, and ending, to one extraordinary day.
