From 7 September to 8 November, artists selected for the ninth edition of Festival del Paesaggio will exhibit their work at the prestigious Villa San Michele, adjacent to the Jumeirah Capri Palace hotel. The Festival aims to explore the contemporary landscape in all its dimensions – environmental, cultural, anthropological and social – through contemporary art, promoting exhibitions and supporting the creation of site-specific works in continuous dialogue with the Capri area.
For the occasion, Jumeirah Capri Palace is demonstrating its commitment to supporting contemporary art by awarding two artists, one from each of the two categories that make up the Festival: Travelogue, paesaggi con rovine, and RUINA, for artists under 35. The first section features the following artists: Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Alessio de Girolamo, Katarina Löfström, Masbedo, Angelo Mosca, Luca Pancrazzi and Sislej Xhafa. The young artists who explore the concept of memory through contemporary art are Clarissa Baldassarri, Morena Cannizzaro, Maria Cavinato, Carmela De Falco and Irene Macalli.
The award aims to promote the artistic, cultural and landscape heritage of the island of Capri, while also strengthening the link between hospitality and the local area. Supporting a project in which voices from the contemporary scene are committed to adding new creative pieces to the history of the place, means admiring the past and looking to the future at the same time. Building an understanding with Festival del Paesaggio translates into a desire to create synergies to tell stories, stimulate ideas and invite fruitful dialogue for cultural development.
Embracing the plurality of contemporary art expressions is the hotel's mission, which acts as a supporter for the training and experimentation of artists: the winners of Jumeirah Capri Palace Award will receive an exhibition showcase to give visibility to their work in the context of the hotel, an artist's residence to imagine new creations inspired by the Capri landscape and a dedicated evening with special guests.
