Valle de los Naranjos

While there are citrus fruit groves all around the island, Sóller is famous for its oranges, which were brought by Arabs in the early Middle Ages. In the 19th century in Port de Sóller oranges were the basis of the economy, and the region rose to prominence. Almost 200 years later, the orchards of the valley are still brimming with oranges. They are at the very heart of its culture and are today grown in Valle de los Naranjos, one of the island’s most stunning landscapes. Embark on a tour to discover all of Port de Sóllers local products, made using around 50 different types of fruit trees.

 

Sa Vinyassa Orchard

Under the golden Aflabia ridge lies the vibrant Sa Vinyassa Orchard, an 18,000sqm plot bursting with oranges and lemons. Here you can learn all about the history of the orange trees and the main types of orange grown, either on a tour with a guide or on a self-guided tour. You’ll also get to savour freshly squeezed organic orange juice and a typical snack. Some of the main types of orange grown in Mallorca include the Navel, which is sweet and easy to peel, the Canoneta, which is used for making juice, and bitter oranges, which are perfect for making bitter orange marmalade.

 

'Fira de la Taronja’

Mallorca’s fertile and evergreen Tramuntana mountain range has optimal conditions for cultivating orange trees. Every year in June, the charming villages of Sóller and Fornalutx honour the quality of their oranges and lemons in a fair known as ‘Fira de la Taronja’ (or ‘orange fair’). For several days, delicious dishes with orange as their key ingredient are served, and the aroma of the citrus fruits is even more intense.
