Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence Dubai awarded Green Globe Certification

Dubai, 07 May 2014: Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence, part of Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, has become the first mixed-use property in Dubai to be accredited with the internationally renowned Green Globe Certification (GGC). 

The certificate was awarded after the property implemented energy saving initiatives related to water resources, the environment, reduced operational costs and for meeting guest and residents’ expectations of green leisure and business travel.  Specially adapted two bedroom duplex eco apartments have been developed, comprising power saving equipment and eco-friendly amenities. 

The property has also taken steps to make positive contributions to the local community through its work with the Children’s Hope Foundation, which aims to improve the quality of life for children and young people affected by illness, disability, or poverty. 

Throughout 2014, Jumeirah Living will adopt new green initiatives as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme and now joins Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Jumeirah Emirates Towers who have already gained the prestigious award for their commitment to the environment. 

Samer Khanfar, General Manager of Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence Dubai, said: “We are delighted to be the first mixed-use property in Dubai to be accredited with the Green Globe Certification. This practice will eventually contribute positively to our economy. Earning the Green Globe Certification is a testimony and a recognition that we are very proud of and a motivation for us to do more for our future generation.”

In 2012 Jumeirah Emirates Towers was the first Jumeirah property to receive the Green Globe Certification and this is the third year the hotel has been approved. The hotel’s current Green Globe audit score is 91%, the highest in the UAE and the Gulf region. The  Burj Al Arab was awarded the Green Globe Certificate after impressing in all areas of the operational audit. In particular, the hotel excelled in water usage reduction, grey water recycling, and in managing its energy output and carbon footprint. Jumeirah Beach Hotel was also certified for its outstanding sustainability management plan where energy-saving measures include an upgraded chiller plant which utilises evaporative cooling systems and waste heat recovery, to reduce electricity consumption by 20%. In addition, environmentally friendly LED bulbs were fitted throughout the hotel, resulting in substantial cost and energy savings.

Sandrine Le Biavant, Director Consultancy, at Dubai-based FARNEK, Green Globe’s preferred partner in the Middle East and the company responsible for carrying out the certification audit said: “Jumeirah Living is the first ‘mixed use residential building’ to achieve Green Globe Certification. All staff members have shown a lot of passion and respect for the environment in the certification process. Everybody expressed a genuine interest to integrate a new angle of meaningful information and services into the business.”

GGC is the premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry and is made up of 337 compliance indicators, applied to 41 individual sustainability criteria. The Green Globe Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses and their supply chain partners.
