Dubai Food Festival and Burj Al Arab take dining to new heights

Dubai, 27 February 2014:  The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and Burj Al Arab are announcing a partnership set to send the Emirate’s fine dining scene soaring in support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). A grand finale to the inaugural Dubai Food Festival, the High Table dinner is a once-in-a-lifetime gourmet experience set 212 metres above the Arabian Gulf, that will take place atop the iconic Burj Al Arab helipad on Thursday, 13 March 2014.

With seating exclusively limited to 12 guests, the AED 10,000 per seat High Table promises to be the ultimate sensory experience with all proceeds going to the ‘Eat and Feed’ initiative in support of WFP. Since 1961, WFP has pursued a vision of the world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life. On average, WFP reaches more than 90 million people with food assistance in 80 countries each year. Organised by Burj Al Arab and supported by the Dubai Food Festival, the High Table dinner is expected to raise funds that will provide food to more than 120,000 children for a day.

Her Excellency Laila Mohammed Suhail, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, commented: “As Dubai’s reputation as a gastronomic destination continues to grow, so too does its profile as a philanthropic hub.  In addition to raising funds in a unique way, the High Table dinner also raises awareness of the great work being undertaken by the United Nations World Food Programme. We are delighted to partner with both WFP and Burj Al Arab to raise funds and awareness of such an important cause.”

Ashraf Hamouda, Head of Partnership & Business Development for MENA, Central Asia & Eastern Europe at the United Nations World Food Programme commented: “While WFP is engaged in the fight against hunger in the region and around the world, we rely on the support of our donors to fund and advocate our operations. By hosting a charity dinner in support of WFP and under the umbrella of the ‘Eat and Feed’ initiative, in such an iconic venue during the Dubai Food Festival, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment and Burj Al Arab will help raise our outreach and fundraising efforts to new heights.”

The High Table dinner starts with a warm Arabian welcome and exclusive reception on the lower helipad deck. Atop the helipad, guests will be treated to 360 degree panoramic views of Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and the World Islands and a gastronomic seven-course degustation menu created by Burj Al Arab’s Executive Chef, Maxime Luvara.

Heinrich Morio, General Manager at Burj Al Arab, commented:  “People within Dubai have known for a long time what fantastic culinary experiences are available here. We are thrilled to back the Dubai Food Festival with this unique dining experience and contribute to Dubai’s position as a hub for culinary expertise. The United Nations World Food Programme is a great cause and to know that the proceeds from this evening are going to provide food to 120,000 children is truly rewarding.”

High Table dinner will take place on Thursday, 13 March 2014. Tickets are AED 10,000 per person and can be purchased by contacting Burj Al Arab’s restaurants reservation team on +971 4 301 7600 or BAArestaurants@jumeirah.com.
