Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai Shows New Art Video in the Lobby

Shanghai, 28 January 2013: Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai unveils a new art video in the Hotel Lobby near the Front Desk Check-in area.  Created by American Video Artist Ruth Eckland, the new video interprets the Feng Shui Five Elements in a modern way.

By using imagery to create a bridge to the five elements, Eckland designed the video that weaves together layers of images from Eckland’s native land California and from Shanghai.  Images such as amusement park rides, trees and plants, jellyfish, colourful fountains and fireworks signify metal, wood, earth, water and fire.  The intent of these intricate combinations is to emphasize the relationship of interdependence that the elements have with each other in the endless cycle of creation and destruction of virtually everything in the universe. Eckland hopes that through her work, viewers might experience a new appreciation and understanding of their own connection to these elements.

With Jumeirah’s philosophy of STAY DIFFERENTTM, everything at the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai is culturally connected and rooted in art.  A wander around the hotel lobby reveals priceless artifacts which are highlighted in the Lobby Art Tour launched by the hotel in early 2012 to showcase the art collection and convey the unique FengShui story.  Guests may borrow an Apple iPod nano at the Concierge to experience the unique Lobby Art Tour. Eckland’s new video work has added a contemporary twist into the hotel’s rich collection of traditional art features.
