Explore Istanbul’s Literary Legacy

Istanbul, 19 March 2013: Since opening in 1895 Pera Palace has enjoyed a rich literary history. Agatha Christie is said to have written “Murder on the Orient Express” while staying in Room 411 and Ernest Hemingway was a loyal patron of the famed Orient Bar. In celebration of the good and great of the literary world who have explored Istanbul from the grandeur of Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, guests can now follow in their footsteps with an offer designed to excite fiction fans old and new. 

A new Literary Package, available from March 2013, is designed to give every guest to Istanbul a taste of the city’s literary heritage. And, with Istanbul home to an international literary festival in the Autumn, guests can now immerse themselves in Istanbul’s literary world. 

Start the discovery with a half-day tour of the city with private guide to take in the museums, sights and sounds. Armed with a free copy of The Museum of Innocence, the novel by Nobel-laureate Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk, there’s time to curl up in a comfortable corner of the historic hotel and get acquainted with a modern classic. Next, deepen your knowledge of the surroundings with complimentary entrance to the real "Museum of Innocence" created by Pamuk. Based on the museum described in the novel, it displays a fascinating collection reflecting everyday life in Istanbul from the 1970s onwards, when the novel is set. One of the walking tours takes guests to Sahaf Stores, a charming antiquarian bookshop, to stock up on reading material.

The rates for the Literature Package for 2 nights in these special suites begin from 875 Euros including breakfast for two, excluding 8% VAT. For those who wish to extend their stay, additional nights begin from 375 Euros.
