UK Restaurant Manager of the Year Award

Michele Caggianese, Restaurant Manager of The Rib Room, Wins Top Award

London, 17 May 2011: Jumeirah Carlton Tower is delighted to announce that Michele Caggianese, Manager of The Rib Room Restaurant, has won the top award at the UK Restaurant Manager of The Year Awards at a ceremony held last night after just two attempts at the title.

The UK Restaurant Manager of the Year award was given to Michele Caggianese, who was praised for his front of house service as well as his strong leadership and business acumen. The panel of judges, featuring Peter Avis of the Roof Gardens at Babylon restaurant, Silvano Giraldin, formerly of Le Gavroche and Ronan Sayburn of Hotel du Vin, deemed Caggianese the winner after being impressed by his passionate personality.

Caggianese competed against six other finalists in a day-long battle for the title, completing a wine and food matching exercise, a wine knowledge test and a training scenario where they demonstrated the correct way to lay a table to a new member of staff. Finalists were also requested to present a business plan for their own restaurant concept, including a marketing plan, profit and loss forecast for the first three years and a proposal for staffing and training.

Conor O’Leary, Chairman of Judges and Director of food and beverage at the Hyatt Regency London comments:

“Michele has great food & beverage experience, is larger than life and will be a good role model for other restaurant managers. He has a real edge and a confidence that is inspiring to others.”

Derek Picot, Regional Vice President (Jumeirah, Europe) comments on the award:

‘On behalf of my colleagues at Jumeirah Carlton Tower we are thrilled for Michele who has achieved this well deserved award in the face of incredibly tough competition from the best in the UK’s hospitality industry. He has displayed great skill and true charm. He will be an invaluable member of the team for the relaunch of The Rib Room which will take place in September 2011’.

Established in 1961, The Rib Room is a bastion of great British cuisine. The signature dish of Roast Rib of Aberdeen Angus beef from the Scottish estate of the Duke of Buccleuch, has repeatedly secured this quintessentially British restaurant the accolade of ‘Best Chophouse’ in Zagat’s London Restaurant Survey.

The Rib Room presents a relaxing atmosphere in richly traditional surroundings, where the whole family can come and enjoy an incredible dining experience. On the walls hang the Chelsea Girls, a series of paintings by Felix Topolski with the famous socialites from the era including Vanessa Redgrave and Shirley Ann Fields. The lively Rib Bar provides a traditional yet sophisticated club-like ambience perfect for pre-dinner drinks or after dinner drinks in richly traditional surroundings.
