Jumeirah Group reports robust 2010 performance and strong start to 2011

  • Average occupancy rates reach over 85% in Dubai beachside properties
  • Robust growth in business hotels in Dubai, New York and London
  • Three new hotels already opened in 2011 – at least four more to follow

Dubai, UAE, 2 May 2011: Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, reported consistently high occupancy in its Dubai hotels in the first four months of 2011 with average room rates showing an upward trend.

In Dubai Jumeirah hotels enjoyed extended periods of full occupancy during the first four months of 2011, averaging out at 85% over the whole period with RevPAR, the industry standard for measuring the revenue per available room, rising by over 7% compared to the same period in 2010.

The fastest riser was Madinat Jumeirah - The Arabian Resort, which saw RevPAR rise by 12% and average room rate by 10% compared to the same period last year. Madinat Jumeirah consists of three hotels – Al Qasr, Mina A’ Salam and Dar Al Masyaf.

At the very top end of the luxury market, Burj Al Arab recorded a year-on-year increase in occupancy of 5%; while the Jumeirah Beach Hotel saw occupancy and RevPAR increase by 5% and 13% respectively from the first four months of 2010 to the same period in 2011. In Wild Wadi Waterpark, visitor numbers increased by 13% in the same period following the opening of two new rides at the start of 2011.

The return of the business travel market was reflected in the occupancy at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, which rose 10% in the same period. In London, Jumeirah Carlton Tower, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel continue to see robust business flows; while in New York Jumeirah Essex House has benefited from the revival of the corporate market.

As a private company Jumeirah does not publish its financial results. However, as part of Dubai Holding Commercial Operations Group, Jumeirah can report a 58% increase in net profits in 2010, compared to 2009.

New Openings
The first four months of 2011 saw three new Jumeirah branded hotels open: Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai; Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel, Shanghai; and Jumeirah Dhevanafushi in the Maldives. The company expects to open several more hotels in 2011, including Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi; Jumeirah Frankfurt in Germany; Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa in Kuwait; Jumeirah Bilgah Hotel in Baku; Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai; and Jumeirah Vittaveli in the Maldives.
