Frankfurt hosts hundreds of events every year, from trade fairs to cultural festivals. From the Frankfurt Book Fair to its enchanting Christmas Market, Frankfurt events bestow year-round excitement on the city.
Festivals in Frankfurt
Residents in Frankfurt know winter is truly over when Spring Dippemess arrives in late March and April. This annual family carnival hosts games, food and entertainment for all ages, as well as fireworks displays. The funfair is repeated in September, in Autumn Dippemess.
In April, Frankfurt’s many museums host Museum Night, a late-opening event that offers a unique cultural experience in the city. In August, the Museum Embankment Festival also attracts culture tourists, with a huge array of food stalls, arts and crafts, live music and theatre. A similar event is the Opernplatz festival, which brings international gastronomy to Opera Square.
One of the main festivals in Frankfurt is August’s Main Festival, during which the central area of Römerberg becomes a large festival site. Entertainment, food, wine and rides are the central attractions, along with traditional fisherman’s jousting. Another August highlight is the Apple Wine Festival, which celebrates the favourite local drink, while Jazz on the Third is a live music event that marks the Day of German Unity.
Conferences and trade fairs
Each year, Frankfurt attracts thousands of visitors to its trade fairs and conferences. Messe Frankfurt is the city’s premier trade fair venue. Some of its high profile events include the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Frankfurt Motor Show and the music fair, Musikmesse, all the largest of their kind in the world.
