The Stairs and a Lift
It is not very often that someone waxes poetical about something as commonplace as an elevator, but in the words of British writer, Daniel Farson, this historic wonder at the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah in Istanbul “is the most beautiful...in the world. It ascends like a lady who curtsies. Tourists cannot take their eyes off this utterly pretty and aristocratic elevator.”
Apart from the Ottoman palaces, our hotel was the first building in the city to have electricity and the first public building to offer visitors an electric lift. The attention to detail that makes the hotel a hallmark of comfort and luxury also shows up in the specially designed staircase with shallow steps making it easier for guests who prefer to walk up to their room.
