Baku

Located in the district of Bilgah in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The total area is approximately 86,600 sq Km and is located along the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula and bordering the most ecologically favourable coastline of the Caspian Sea.

Famous for its healing air the area of Bilgah has been a home for many medical and recreational sanatoriums, and has lately developed into one of the prestigious private residential areas.

History

The earliest written records of Baku date back to the 5th-8th centuries A.D. Being a bridge between the East and the West, Baku had been captivating the world for centuries as an intersection of various cultures and civilizations. The skyline of Baku marks a city embracing the true potential of tomorrow with rich nuances of old and new. From the quaint alleyways of the Old City (Icheri Sheher) one of a few UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Azerbaijan dating back to the 12th century and hosting close to 50 historic monuments and architectural landmarks to picturesque seaside boulevards of the Bay of Baku, modern buildings, museums, theatres, concert halls, restaurants, shopping and recreational areas Baku is a vibrant and dynamic city, poised as the ideal destination for holiday-makers and business travellers. 

Climate & Weather

Baku has a subtropical semi-arid climate with hot and dry summers, cold and occasionally wet winters, and strong winds all year long. However, unlike many other cities with this climate, Baku does not see extremely hot summers. This is largely because of its northerly latitude and the fact that it is located on a peninsula on the shore of the Caspian Sea.

The city enjoys pleasant weather between the months of April to October, while summer time temperatures reach up to 34 degrees. Those seeking to discover the natural beauty and hidden charms of Azerbaijan can visit a host of delightful attractions.

Today the vast majority of the population of Baku are ethnic Azerbaijanis, with an estimated total population of 2,064,900 in 2010.

Economy

Baku's largest industry is petroleum, and its petroleum exports make it a large contributor to Azerbaijan's economy.
