Admission Requirements

Admission requirements
Admission decisions are based on a combination of factors, including academic degrees and records, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, test scores, an interview and relevant work experience.

The minimum graduate admission requirements are:

  1. A Bachelors degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution; with a satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B).
  2. Sufficient relevant work experience – normally at least 1 year at supervisory level.
  3. A satisfactory level of English language – demonstrated by a score at least 600 on the paper-based TOEFL, 100 on internet-based test TOEFL, or 7.0 on the IELTS. (see below)
  4. Successful completion of The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management’s entry test. Please see our web pages for detail on the content on the test.
  5. Successful interview

Satisfying minimum standards, however, does not guarantee admission, since the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of places available. As a result, many well-qualified applicants cannot be accommodated.

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management also considers the appropriateness of career goals to the degree programme and the research interests of the faculty. In addition, consideration may be given to how background and life experience would contribute towards an educationally beneficial mix of students.

Application Process

All application materials, including a completed application form, application fee, and official transcripts, must be submitted at least four weeks before the term in which you plan to begin post-graduate study.

The following documents are also required:

  • A statement of purpose articulating career goals (500 words)
  • Two letters of reference.
o One should be from the applicant's current supervisor.
o The other might be from a person familiar with the applicant's work and with whom the applicant has worked.
o Letters from former teachers or professors are also eligible.
  • (if employed and opting for the flexible study mode) A letter of support from the employer for the applicant's participation in intensive short courses (approximately four weeks in duration) that will take place at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
  • Transcript/Diploma/Parchment: applicants must submit an official transcript with an English translation (if necessary) from the university granting their degree. The transcript should indicate the degree and when it was received and the original transcript must be sent to The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management from the university who granted the qualification. If the degree is awarded by a foreign university, a letter from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research recognizing the degree must be submitted/ or the degree certificate must be attested.
  • An entrance interview is required in order to confirm interest in the programme and academic preparedness.
  • An entrance test is required in order to confirm academic preparedness.

The Entrance Interview and test
The interview and test are designed to examine the applicant’s knowledge and business skills as well as his/her commitment to the international hospitality industry. Full details of the test and interview are shown on the web pages of the Academy.

In addition to the above, graduates of recognized accredited academic institutions outside the United Arab Emirates should have completed degree programmes of a minimum of 3 years duration.
