Applying in the Academy

In order to ensure a world class education experience, The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management has adopted rigorous entry criteria.

While The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management's application process is simple and convenient, it guarantees that only students whose profiles match the Academy's exacting requirements are finally selected. The two stages of the application process include assessment of necessary documentation and a personal interview.

Application process

There are a number of prerequisites for entry into The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. These are detailed in full on the selection criteria page in this site. Similarly, a full schedule of fees can also be downloaded from the fees page.

Please see the catalogue for the transfer of certified credit by individual students.

The following is a checklist of all the documents and materials needed for your application:

  • A completed application form.
  • Official transcripts from the school(s) you have attended during the last three years and a copy of the final diploma(s) received.
  • An evaluation/reference form filled out by one of your teachers and returned to us in a sealed envelope.
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS result. You must arrange for the result to be received directly from the issuing agency to The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
  • Your personal statement (see application form).
  • A completed medical information form.
  • Copies of employment certificates (if available).
  • Copies of any academic awards or honours.
  • Coloured passport copy including valid visa page (only if available).
  • Six recent coloured passport type photographs.
  • Confirmation of the AED 500 (US $150 ) application fee payment.

Selection criteria

All applicants are assessed on their academic and personal achievements, and only those individuals with strong leadership qualities and real management potential are selected. In addition, the screening process assesses maturity, commitment and a student's willingness to dedicate considerable time to a demanding career.

Academic background

Only students with appropriate pre-university qualifications will be considered. The list below provides the minimum selection requirements. If qualifications from your country of origin are not included please contact the Academy for details.

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management typically requires the following school leaving certification:

    * International Baccalauréate Diploma
    * Abitur/Matura/Baccalauréate, etc.
    * 5 GCSEs plus minimum 2 A-levels
    * UAE Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent

Personal assessment

Those students considered suitable will be invited to the second stage of the application process - an informal personal interview. At this stage, the interview panel will judge if the applicant is suited for a career in the hospitality or related management industries. The panel will assess the candidate's motivation and establish the extent to which their professional aspirations fit The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management profile.

Proof of adequate English proficiency

Proof of adequate English proficiency is required from all undergraduate applicants.

Acceptable Tests and Required Scores

TOEFL and IELTS (Academic Test) are the most commonly used English proficiency tests that are accepted by the Academy. Scores required for entry into undergraduate programmes at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management are listed in accepted TOEFL/IELTS scores (see link below).

TOEFL® Tests – Test of English as a Foreign Language

The indicated Normal Requirements that are listed in accepted TOEFL/IELTS scores (see link below) will apply in all cases, except: if an applicant scores in the Discretionary Range, and is otherwise exceptionally well qualified for admission, the Academy will consider other academic evidence of English proficiency (for example, results in English courses) and will advise the applicant whether or not the English requirements have been satisfied.

Applicants need to provide an original test result or a certified copy. The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management’s TOEFL institutional code is 7116.

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management administers the TOEFL paper based test as well as the TOEFL preparatory course. For further details please contact the Language Centre.

IELTS - International English Language Testing System

The IELTS scores that are accepted by The Emirates Academy are listed in accepted TOEFL/IELTS scores (see link below). The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6, with no part score below 5.5. The indicated Normal Requirements will apply in all cases, except: if an applicant scores in the Discretionary Range, and is otherwise exceptionally well qualified for admission as above.
