Jumeirah Regatta
The 9th Jumeirah Regatta welcomed cruisers, dinghies, foiling moths and catamarans from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman in a sailing race off Dubai’s coastline. The annual event, which was sponsored by Jumeirah Group, a member of Dubai Holding, has firmly established itself as one of the highlights of the national sailing calendar with increasing international appeal; bringing together the top young sailing talent from across the GCC, as well as many of the UAE’s most experienced fleet racing competitors.
In 2010, the Jumeirah Regatta marked the first time that the event had received entries beyond Dubai with entrants from Abu Dhabi and the Oman Sailing Club also competing this year. The overall line-up of sailing vessels exceeds the registration record of previous years, with 110 vessels taking part in this year’s event.
The Jumeirah Regatta was hosted between the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, whose North Beach was hosting the dinghies, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, which was launching the cruisers, and Mina Seyahi Water Sports Club, the event base for the catamarans.
“...this was our first regatta in Dubai. What a great surprise it was. Jumeirah did a fantastic job in the evening – really most impressive despite the rain. We will wear our shirts with pride...We really look forward to next year. “- Tim Grant, Director – 24 Services
“…thanks to Jumeirah for yet another stunning regatta and prize giving dinner. It really is the highlight of the sailing calendar for sailors in Dubai and the one event that is looked forward to each year. Our beautiful glass trophy now has pride of place on the piano and we're pleased to have been able to win our class flying a Jumeirah spinnaker.” - Peter & Carol Peter Eldridge
“I would like to thank you and the sponsorship team for an absolutely fabulous event. And I agree it was the best sailing event in the UAE! It was a pleasure to work with you and I’m looking forward to doing it all again” – Sharon Allison, Operations & Event Manager – Mina Seyahi
The 10th Jumeirah Regatta will take place on 4th and 5th February 2011.
