At Jumeirah Essex House in New York we have created art initiatives that engage contemporary artists in a dialogue about place. Our Artist-in-Residency program has allowed us to commission world class artists to interpret our hotel and its special relationship with Central Park in new and forward-thinking ways, while our exhibition The Heart of Central Park, curated in partnership with the Museum of the City of New York and MagnumPhotos, explores the history of the park through images of how people from all over the world have enjoyed the park since its beginning in 1858.
Other community-based initiatives, such as self-guided MP3 art and architecture walking tours through Central Park, hotel packages based on the City’s premier cultural events, and creative collaborations with partners like Tiffany & Co., LegoLand, and Centralpark.com have expanded our reach even further. We are now bridging cultures and building communities globally through support of art fairs and cultural events in cities around the world like London, Miami, Dubai and beyond.
Art fairs are critical to building community and bridging cultures, and are a central destination for cultural tourists, collectors, art dealers, curators, scholars and artists. In its third year at Madinat Jumeirah, Art Dubai has become a major fair in the Middle East for contemporary art and helps to position Dubai as the apex of cultural confluence. For four days in March, the fair brings together the most exciting artists, dealers, arts professionals and creative thinkers from around the world to participate. All this happens in our local neighbourhood at Madinat Jumeirah on Jumeirah Beach, which is the ideal location to experience cultural richness and excitement of the region and celebrate art and culture from around the world. We are proud to be the official hotel sponsor of Art Dubai 2009 and to promote Dubai as the centre stage for this important fair, which is as vibrant as the city itself.
