Theatre news

The Royal Albert Hall is hosting Cirque du Soleil until 15 February. Inspired by many founding myths, Totemtraces a journey of the human species from amphibian to its ultimate desire to fly, using Cirque’s well-known visual and acrobatic language. It’s a truly magical experience.

From 4 February, Singing in the Rain is set to make a splash at the Palace Theatre in the West End. Soaring choreography from the roaring 20s with all the charm, romance and Tinseltown glamour of one of the world’s best loved films, this is guaranteed to shower theatregoers with everything they could ever want from a West End show.

Another show to watch out for is this revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. This dark comedy starring stage stalwart Michael Ball is about a wronged barber who wreaks his horrible revenge on a gruesome Victorian London. This production is a must see for its razor sharp wit and guts and gore.

Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Commemorating 60 years on the throne, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth reach a peak on Sunday 3 June. Up to 1,000 boats will muster on the River Thames as Her Majesty leads one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river. An array of vessels including rowed boats, working boats and pleasure vessels will be decked out in streamers and Union Jacks as they work their way along the river to celebrate Britain’s second longest reigning monarch.
